What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the ability to be present in a single moment. It has a lot to do with paying attention to the information your senses are giving you. Focusing on the five senses, touch, sound, smell, sight and taste is a technique used in mindfulness to keep the brain still and prevent it from wandering. Mindfulness is an ancient idea that helps people live in the moment, worry and stress less, and feel more alive.

Benefits of Mindfulness

By practicing mindfulness in our everyday lives, we can begin to feel less stressed, anxious, depressed and just generally weighed down with our emotions. Being mindful of our surroundings and our bodies allows us to take a look at the situations we’re in and examine them in a calm and collected manner. We’re also more capable of living in the moment and being happier. When we’re mindful we aren’t sitting on the beach trying to relax while thinking stressful thoughts about our job. Being mindful also allows you to be more observative. When you start to practice mindfulness, you begin to see things that you’ve been missing this whole time. Whether it be the beautiful songs of birds on your morning walk to work, the colors of the sky at sunset, or the joy you feel being surrounded by those you love.

Essential Oils and Mindfulness

There are many ways to practice mindfulness and incorporate it into your everyday life. Taking a walk and really focusing on the things you observe around you is a great way to get yourself out of your own head and forget about the things that are stressing you out. Engaging the senses, especially your strongest sense—smell—is a great way to bring focus and calm to your brain.

Using essential oils as aromatherapy by diffusing them can relieve stress and rejuvenate the mind and body.

You can also use essential oils as a massage oil, vaporizer, or to burn while you meditate. Another great option is to dilute the essential oils and wear them on your neck and wrist. This way as you are going about your day, you can catch of whiff of these awesome smelling oils. The calming scent will engage your sense of smell and allow your mind to focus on it, noticing how the smell calms your brain and melts away your stress. These are all great ways that essential oils can help you practice mindfulness, focus your brain, and enjoy life more.
